Dental Implants

Dental implants replace a missing tooth with a small artificial root, usually made of titanium, that is placed in the jawbone and gradually bonds with it. A ceramic crown designed to look like a natural tooth is then attached on top. Implants can replace a single tooth or several, or support a bridge or full denture. Because they don’t rely on neighbouring teeth, those teeth stay intact and don’t need to be reshaped.

Implants may be suitable if you have lost one or more teeth through decay, injury or gum disease, or if you struggle with a loose removable denture. Generally, your gums need to be healthy and there must be enough bone to support the implant; where bone is limited, your dentist may suggest a bone graft. Your general health is also assessed, as conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or smoking call for extra care.

Treatment begins with a thorough examination and a 3D CBCT scan, which allows precise digital planning of the implant position. The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, and most patients find the procedure more comfortable than they expected. A healing period of around two to four months usually follows while the implant integrates with the bone. We then take impressions and fit your final crown, matched to the shade of your teeth.

Mild swelling or discomfort for a few days after surgery is common and can usually be managed with the pain relief your dentist prescribes, along with soft foods and no smoking. In the long run, implants need the same care as natural teeth, plus regular check-ups. At Smile Clinic, we use well-established implant systems and modern imaging, and we guide you gently and clearly through every stage at our clinic in Damascus.

Questions about this service

It depends on your general health, the amount of bone in your jaw and the condition of your gums. Your dentist will carry out a clinical exam and 3D imaging to assess your case, and some patients may need a bone graft first. Certain health conditions and smoking can affect the plan, so these are discussed with you in detail.
Implants need the same care as natural teeth: brushing twice a day, cleaning between teeth with floss or interdental brushes, and regular check-ups and cleanings. Healthy gums around the implant are key to its long-term success, and stopping smoking is strongly recommended.
